The Mid Winter Swim

On Thursday the 20th of June some of Tahunanui Schools crazy kids jumped into the freezing cold sea in the middle of winter.  We call it the mid winter swim, our school has been celebrating it for many years. Most people kept their heads out of the water.  The rest of them that did put their heads under probably lost their minds from the coldness. All we could hear was laughing and screaming, every one was jumping the waves prancing around like rabbits. After everyone was chattering with coldness, shivering with towels around them we got a nice hot shower and a warm milo was given out with chocolate fish, ha ha ha ha.

When we were all warmed up and dressed and about to walk back to school we had a big surprise their was a whale that came ashore. We got to go down to the dog beach and see it.  It was smaller than we imagined -  it was over the size of a dolphin but under the size of a big whale. It was sad to see a such a amazing animal stranded, it felt a little like rubber. It was probably a once in a life time sight, every one was glaring with amazement. The name of the whale was grays beak or scamper down.

  1. Hi Georgia and Henry

It was amazing that you got to touch the Gray's Beak Whale.

Were you nervous about touching it? Did you see anything else down there?
